Simon Mannaerts (SIMO) is a street artist and painter from Antwerp, Belgium.
Growing up around Berchem Station, he got into graffiti early on. Walls became his first canvases. places to mess around with shapes, colours, lines and movement. That urge to paint walls has never really left.
Today, SIMO moves between murals, canvas and paper. His work is driven by a fascination with the human condition and the moments in between. the split second before something happens, the pause in the middle of movement, the quiet before the noise kicks in.
He’s not too interested in spelling everything out. His drawings, paintings and murals are more about creating a feeling, capturing a moment, a mood, a bit of silence in the middle of the daily rush.
For SIMO, the street is a huge open canvas. A place to experiment, play, bring colour into the everyday and make art that is there for everyone. No gallery ticket, no dress code just a wall, a moment and whoever happens to walk by.
